I think you are on to something, but would add a question or concern, namely: the Canada US border is a contrived colonial affair and any breakup will have to incorporate some kind of negotiation or dialogue with those of us living in what is known as Canada, particularly indigenous peoples whose knowledge will be the backbone of coming adaptation to and mitigation of the climate crisis. More discussion needed to avoid conflict.

Being active in movements fighting fossil fuel infrastructure which link north and south of the 49th, such as Line 3 and the Trans-Mountain Pipeline, in which indigenous people play key and leading roles, I totally agree. Any political order which succeeds the present one, and which is going to have any relevance in our increasingly climate disrupted world, is going to need to give the indigenous a strong voice.

Quite well crafted, provocative article Patrick. The "union" is frustrating people from every subgroup. My sense is that a multicultural democracy is culturally and tactically advancing. Check out the mainstream commercials.
