Harvard is trashing its reputation as a knowledge-based institution. It may never recover from this low point in so visibly deviating from the path of intellectual honesty, open rigorous debate and searching for knowledge and truth.
No matter how much wealth Harvard has in its foundation, as an academic institution, it is now exposed as a place where some sort of “taliban” run the place, and academics cannot pursue knowledge without risking some kind of “fatwah” coming down upon them. Which in turn means that going forward, any academic work from Harvard is implicitly tainted by questions about what sort of filter and agenda have coloured it, and what weaknesses are hidden in it because of a a fear to address topics openly.
From what I have observed, Dartmouth and Columbia too have disgraced themselves here in the same way. Horribly wrong choices were made there.
Harvard has been a key institution of US global imperialism, a validator of the US global order, a finishing school and networking academy for the future US and global power elite. The editors who voted to suppress this are showing they don't want to risk their rise up the career ladder, as The Intercept report calls out. So detestable as this is, it should come as no surprise.
Indeed. If the leading future lawyers will not stand up for truth and justice at age 21-22 years old how many more Guantanamo’s are ahead? Might as well close up these institutions, drop the intellectual pretence and send them to military institutions like Alberto Gonzalez - because the legal profession is clearly no longer about truth and justice.
They're mostly heading for corporate law firms where truth and justice play second fiddle to power and money. And some may even wind up at the pinnacles of the empire like former law review Editor Barack "Turns out I'm really good at killing people" Obama.
The Commander in Cheif Barack Obama who admitted to his people “torturing some folks”….with no consequences…..and who in 2014 expressed no objection to Israel’s occupation of palestine and his only complaint was irritation about their refusal to buckle under and be colonialized:
